Does religion play a vital role in modern society?

Religion has been a big part of our society. Almost every nation at some point had its own religion. There is something instinctive inside us that needs some kind of belief system so we could function properly. The religion is still very important to many people around the world. There are still a few thousand religions across the world and even more denominations of all of those religions. Some of them have only a few followers, and some have more than 2 billion followers. But with the modern time, modern technology, better access to the information and ability to explore and understand the universe. And with the rise of secularism and human rights. Does religion really play a vital role in our society? Well, let`s find out.

How important is religion in our modern world?

Is religion really that important in our society. Well, not anymore. There have been many studies done that confirm that people less and less believe in god or follow any particular religion. A number of religious people are dropping astronomically, especially in developed countries. The main reason for this is the better education, easier access to the information, ability to choose for yourself what you want to believe, and capability to inform yourself about any information that might interest you. Also, there are many other systems that have replaced religion as the main choice for finding the meaning of life, or to help the people in need. People don`t feel anymore that religion is the only thing that teaches us how we should live our lives. Also, we all know that religious belief is based on a belief system without any evidence of the validity of the claims that any particular religion makes. With the rise of education, people have stopped to believe in things that have never been proven or don`t have any logical basis in the universe that we live.

With the exploration of the universe, we are able to learn more and more about the universe and how it works. And with each new discovery, we realize how small and insignificant our human race is in the whole universe. That there is probably no one who cares about us, especially about what do you do during the day and if you worship that supranational being.  Even if some kind of higher being exists, it would not care about us, the same as we don`t care about the life of every single ant and what does that and does during the day.

Does then religion really have a place in our modern world?

Well, it has, but in the privacy of our homes and in the places of worship. Anywhere else religion should be kept for yourself. We have seen a big push of religious people who are basically trying to reduce human rights. Who are full of hate towards people who are different than them. There are nowadays more negative things done in the name of religion than good things. And there is no good deed that could not be done if you are not a religious person. Also, human rights are not based on teachings of any religion in the world. They are based on compassion, logical and critical thinking and on scientific evidence.

Religion is losing its footing in our modern world. And that might be for the best. Our society needs to be united, to be without hate and racism. We need the society in which everyone has equal rights and have equal opportunities to make their dreams come true as every other person in the world. And with the religion, at least as it is right now, we are not able to do it. To make our world safer and better place for all of us.
